Artist and music business professional based in Portland, ME.
I picked up a camera for the first time at twelve years old, and was experimenting with film photography in community darkrooms by sixteen. I am not gifted with the fine motor skills that often lend themselves to arts and crafts. As a kid I enjoyed photography because it allowed me a creative practice that didn’t rely on conventional artistic/technical proficiency. But I didn’t consider myself a creative or artistic person. I had practically stopped drawing by the 4th grade, and I didn’t look back for quite a long time.
In the last several years, while working various jobs in the music industry, I have rediscovered the joys of art and creation. For the first time in my life, I am not frustrated by my inability to produce a respectable master copy, or by my complete and eternal confusion with perspective drawing. I have had so much fun playing with all kinds of different mediums, and trying to free myself from my own scrutiny.
I am a very product-oriented person. I am trying, and slowly learning, to appreciate process too. And in doing so, maybe I can also become more patient, empathetic, and thoughtful.
